Connecting The Dots...

Connecting The Dots…

Do April showers bring May flowers? YES! My backyard is delightfully BURSTING with lilacs and wisteria (can you smell it!?) For those of you who are experiencing spring allergies along with the bloom and feel like you are one of Snow White's 7 Dwarfs; Sneezy, Sleepy, Itchy, Puffy, Sniffly, Dopey or Grumpy-- I feel you all!

There are many things you can do to take care of yourself during allergy season AND to prepare yourself for NEXT allergy season. (Keep in mind: it’s what you do the previous spring that sets you up for how you will experience the next spring! This is true for many things.) Using an air purifier indoors, a saline solution nasal rinse and taking good quality supplements to name just achoo, excuse me, I mean to name just a FEW.

Improving gut health, eating organic and getting solid sleep also help with allergies. These things all take some attention, helpful guidance (and patience). I have written about all of them before and will again! If you’re not already taking Quercetin (a key antioxidant) I highly suggest incorporating it. Quercetin is anti-inflammatory and prevents immune cells from releasing histamines, which are chemicals that cause allergic reactions. As a result, researchers have found that Quercetin may help reduce symptoms of allergies. Lots of foods contain quercetin but you’d need to eat, absorb and assimilate LOADS of these good quality foods consistently in order to get adequate amounts to provide proper support. The same is true of many nutrients in that we ideally would be able to get all of what we need from food alone but unfortunately that is difficult to do even for those who are “generally healthy". (Remember I am distilling this information into digestible form for you, eliminating the extra nerdy info.)

Recently I was involved with a very immersive conference on Longevity and Regenerative Health which covered A LOT of ground/many topics and deep dives. One thing I learned is that Quercetin is not only linked with immune support but also longevity! Quercetin also removes something called senescent cells, as something called a senolytic and may destroy these senescent cells, which are another reason we age.  If you need suggestions for the best supplement source of Quercetin please let me know as I definitely have my well researched favorites.

I am gradually integrating the abundance of information and experiences from the conference into my life and teaching. I knew about Quercetin for immune support but didn’t know it’s influence in longevity. The topics ranged from learning more about stem cell research and availability, reversing Type 2 Diabetes, plant medicine’s role in longevity and healing, effective mind-body medicine practices of many kinds (thankfully much of which I teach and practice) and mental health topics like something called RDS (Reward Deficiency Syndrome) which 1 in 5 people have and is directly associated with addiction and compulsive disorders and there are ways to heal which were also covered. I also think it's important to mention that the impact of mis-managed long term high level stress. Biological age undergoes a rapid increase in response to diverse forms of stress, which is reversed following recovery from stress. The importance of recovery period from ALL forms of stress is imperative. In some ways ample recovery time is more important than exercise (for example). The stressors and recovery are symbiotic-- we need both but not in long term extremes of either. IF there are extreme periods of stress--it can be helped with ample recovery practices. What are you doing for your recovery time, I'd love to know!

DID YOU KNOW?

Speaking of longevity: To date, there's only one species that has been called 'biologically immortal': the jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii. These small, transparent animals hang out in oceans around the world and can turn back time by reverting to an earlier stage of their life cycle!! They do this over and over therefore never dying unless eaten by another animal. Basically it's Benjamin Button in the ocean!

SOME THINGS TO SHARE WITH YOU

This is a recipe I reinvented (in honor of my birthday) several years ago and has stood the test of time as one of my very favorites! I usually add extra lemon and poppy because: why not?

If you’ve never tried the original Bulletproof Coffee, then you are in for a treat! I order their very well made decaf regularly (and the French Kick) plus always their MCT oil and several others. Happy to share other favorites with you if you'd like to know! **Get 15% off when you use code JESSICA15 at check out and enjoy!**

Concluding my current Group Program and getting ready for the next series!!

Here's what one group member wanted to share about her experience and her video is also below. "Before I joined the group I felt totally stressed, stuck and unsupported in many ways. I would quit after only a couple of months any/all healthy habits I tried to incorporate, it was an awful cycle I was in. The group helped me turn all of that around and I'm feeling, light, free, relaxed and supported now! I feel more amazing than ever!" -Marta D.
